7 July 2026 Update:
After months of complex legal discussions, NHS Essex has confirmed that The Hollies GP Surgery in Hadleigh is one step closer to reopening to patients. The GP practice team and landlord have now reached an agreement on legal arrangements and the practice team is now working on a plan to prepare the building and services for reopening in August.
Dame Rebecca Harris MP: "I’m very pleased that this has finally been resolved, after months of uncertainty for residents. I know this will come as a huge relief to many residents, families and staff from across the Borough who have contacted me about this.
"I have supported the action taken to resolve the legal issues, and I would like to thank the excellent caretaker GP practice for stepping in to see patients, and I think everyone will be glad to finally be allowed back in the building."
This marks a significant milestone in efforts to bring services back on site, including moving equipment and preparing clinical systems to ensure a safe and smooth return for patients.
The building was closed following CQC action at the end of last year, and the reopening was delayed following a period of disruption caused by legal issues relating to the premises. During this time, a full range of GP services continued from alternative local locations, ensuring patients could continue to access care.
The practice will now take on a new name, Rectory Road Surgery, marking a fresh start as services return to the building. Patients do not need to re-register and will remain registered with the practice as normal.
Tom Abell, Chief Executive Officer at NHS Essex, said:
“I am very pleased to confirm that the building is now ready to reopen. I would like to apologise to patients for the disruption they have experienced at the Hollies and I thank them and the wider community for their patience and understanding during what has been a challenging period.”
Further information about the reopening and specific August dates will also be available via the practice website: www.theholliesgpsurgery.co.uk
24 March 2026 Update:
Today, Rebecca provided a further update on The Hollies Surgery in Hadleigh:
"There is some progress. The licence to occupy the building has now been confirmed, and safety checks are underway so services can safely return.
"However, it is disappointing that we still do not have a confirmed reopening date, with early April now the earliest indication. I know many residents will share my frustration at how long this has taken.
"I will continue to press for these works to be completed as quickly as possible so patients can access services from that building again.
"In the meantime, patients can continue to access GP services through the temporary arrangements already in place, including appointments at alternative local sites and support via the practice by phone or online. Patients remain registered with the practice and do not need to take any action.
"I will keep pushing for answers and keep residents updated."
5 March 2026 Update:
"I have received an update from the NHS on restoring services at the Hollies Surgery building.
"The previous contract holder has now surrendered the lease, which is an important step towards reopening the site in the near future. The NHS is finalising legal arrangements to allow a caretaker provider to operate from the building, with services expected to return once safety checks are complete.
"The practice is also expected to reopen under a new name, Rectory Road Surgery, marking a fresh start for all their existing patients. No one will have to re-register.
"I know how frustrating this situation has been for many patients. I will keep pressing the NHS to restore full GP services locally as quickly as possible and will share further updates when I receive them."
10 November 2025 Update:
Today, Rebecca has provided an update on the services provided at the Hollies GP Surgery.
She said: "The local health authority were unfortunately unable to fully reopen the Hollies Surgery on Friday as planned due to unforeseen legal issues.
"My office and I have been in constant contact with the health authority throughout the day, and I am pleased that some services have now been restored this evening, including:
Telephone GP consultations for patients with existing bookings
Processing of prescription requests already received
Review of the backlog of patient queries, prioritised by clinical urgency
"This situation is completely unacceptable. My residents have endured more than enough disruption already and need to see a clinician as soon as possible.
"While as the local MP I have no direct authority over the NHS, I have made my expectations crystal clear. I am meeting the CEO of the local NHS Integrated Care Board tomorrow and will insist that Hollies patients must have access to the full range of medical services they would expect from their GP as soon as possible.
"I will provide more updates when they are available."
For the latest updates, patients should visit the Hollies Surgery website as the surgery’s Facebook page is not currently managed by existing staff. You can access the surgery website via this link: www.theholliesgpsurgery.co.uk
