We, the undersigned, call on Castle Point Borough Council and the Planning Inspectors to reject development on the five strategic Grey Belt sites being considered through the Local Plan examination:
- Jotmans Farm in Benfleet
- Glebelands in Thundersley
- Land West of Canvey Road
- Land East of Canvey Road
- Land East of Rayleigh Road
- Land South of Charfleets on Canvey Island
- Land between Felstead Road and Catherine Road in Benfleet
- Land at The Chase in Thundersley
Castle Point already faces severe pressure on its roads, major junctions, drainage, schools, doctors’ surgeries and other infrastructure. We do not want these treasured Green Belt sites sacrificed to accommodate more development.
If substantial additional housing has to be built in the Borough, we believe it should instead be concentrated at North West Thundersley, as part of a properly planned strategic development with the infrastructure to support it, including a new road connection to the A130 or A127.
Protect treasured Green Belt sites. Put infrastructure first. Plan major development properly.
