We always celebrate Armed Forces Day properly in Castle Point and although many other events were cancelled with good reason because of fears over the heat, I am pleased the Canvey parade and service at the Paddocks went ahead as usual. Although the high temperature understandably meant that some couldn’t make it, it was an excellent event.
It is always fantastic to see how our community comes together to honour the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country. It was also good to see Her Worship the Mayor of Castle Point, the High Sheriff of Essex, the Mayor of Canvey Town Council and Freeman of the Borough Ray Howard MBE also attending to support our local armed forces and veterans. This year we are also joined by a serving Royal Navy Rating (AB2) who marched behind the Union Jack and in front of the Armed Forces Day flag, the Royal British Legion standard and other local organisation flags in the parade.
Thank you to every veteran who marched, everyone who attended, and all those who worked so hard behind the scenes to organise another excellent Armed Forces Day. It was a fitting tribute from a community that will always stand behind those who serve.
