Rebecca eye test

Rebecca recently went to get her eyes tested and urges you to do so to. In the UK 1.7 million people are living with sight loss and this figure is only expected to increase. It is recommended that you get regular eye tests, at least every two years, and they are a simple and practical way to maintain good eye health and look after your eyes.

Eye tests are vital because you may not feel any pain or discomfort when something is wrong with your eyes. A visit to your optician for an examination is an important health check that may detect initial signs of eye conditions before you’re aware of any symptoms. It is important to remember that many eye conditions can be treated successfully if found early.

People are often unaware that an eye test can pick up early signs of eye disease. An eye test can also help identify other health conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and increased risk of stroke.

Rebecca said: ‘As with any other conditions the earlier sight problems are detected the more likely are to be successfully treated. Many people don’t realise that changes in sight can be gradual, and experts say that it’s possible to lose up to 40% of your vision before even noticing it. Therefore, it is very important for everyone to get your eyes tested regularly and maintain a good level of optical health. Having passed forty I now get my eyes tested regularly.’

You can check if you are eligible for a free NHS eye test here: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/opticians/free-nhs-eye-tests-and-optical-vouchers/
