Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris took advantage of a break from Parliament to take a tour of local businesses in her constituency earlier this month to hear about their successes, challenges, ideas and concerns. The visits were arranged by the CEO of the Essex Chambers of Commerce, Denise Rossiter and involved a range of small and larger businesses in Castle Point, including Duration Windows and F.Brazils based on Canvey and Vanitorials based in Thundersley. 

Rebecca took questions and listened to their perspective about regulatory issues and workforce challenges.

Speaking after the tour Rebecca said: “I was in business for over twenty years before I entered politics but it's important I keep up to speed with employers' views. It was encouraging to see how local business are adapting and growing in a post-COVID world and to speak to employers about the challenges they are facing finding trained staff and retaining them to keep growing their firms.” 

“Local businesses are the life blood of any economy and the Government needs to keep on supporting employers by cutting red tape and making sure our young people have the skills they need when they enter our local workforce. I am very grateful to Essex Chambers of Commerce for setting up visits to some firms I hadn’t met with directly before.”
