1 in 4 adults have now had both vaccines

We have administered a total of 47.5 million vaccine doses across the UK, including 33.9 million first doses and 13.5 million second doses. Three in five adults in the UK have received at least one vaccine dose, with one in four adults having received their second dose.

All adults over 50, the clinically vulnerable, and health and social care workers have been offered a life-saving jab – meaning we reached our target for offering a first dose to priority groups 1-9 ahead of schedule.

We are now asking people over the age of 42 to come forward and get their jab. To book or manage your coronavirus vaccination, please visit: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/.

We remain on track to reach all adults by the end of July - around 53 million people.

Extra 60 million Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines secured

Secured extra 60 million vaccines

We have secured an additional 60 million vaccine doses for our booster shot programme, which will protect the most vulnerable from new variants and keep us all safe as we build back better.

Our vaccination programme is bringing back our freedom, but the biggest threat to that progress is the risk posed by a new variant. That is why the Government has secured an additional 60 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to support our booster programme later this year, which will be developed in line with expert advice to ensure that we have the strongest possible protection against new variants of the disease.

Ensuring that those with the highest clinical need are protected from the disease will keep us all safe and free as we continue to cautiously ease restrictions.

The Government will publish further details on the booster programme in due course and the final policy will be informed by advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and the results of clinical trials studying the use of different combinations of approved COVID-19 vaccines.

UK sends further vital oxygen equipment to support India

Yesterday, the Government announced a further shipment of vital oxygen equipment to India which will help to save lives and support a key friend in the global fight against the pandemic.

We stand side by side with India during their hour of need and are determined to support the Indian people through this difficult time. That is why the Government are sending an additional shipment to India of life-saving oxygen equipment, following up our previous delivery on Tuesday of nine airline containers full of oxygen concentrators and ventilators, which will help to prevent the tragic loss of life from this terrible virus.

Three oxygen generation units will be sent from surplus stocks in Northern Ireland to support India by providing more oxygen to those suffering from COVID-19. The oxygen units are each capable of producing 500 litres of oxygen per minute, enough for 50 people to use at a time. Oxygen is one of the main needs of India’s healthcare system.

The Government will continue to work closely with the Indian Government as part of the UK’s support for the international community in the global fight against the pandemic.
