Rebecca Harris MP has welcomed Essex County Council’s announcement of extra funding for pothole repairs and highways improvements.
At the Full Council meeting on the 15th May Council leader Cllr David Finch announced that almost £5 million of extra funding will be put towards pothole repairs and highway improvements. Cllr Finch commented “I am pleased to announce additional funding for our highways that have deteriorated more rapidly due to the bad weather earlier this year. There will be an extra £2.5m for pothole repairs, £1.2m for local highways panels, £1m for highways works that can be devolved to as local a level as possible, and £200,000 to keep Essex tidy by improving the appearance of highways and verges.”
This funding announcement from Essex County Council follows the Government’s announcement earlier this year of £100 million extra funding to help repair potholes nationwide.
Rebecca said: “This is excellent news for Castle Point residents and I am pleased that thanks to the Council’s financial prudence, extra money will be spent on Highway improvements. Potholes are one of issues that residents contact me the most about and I will press Council leaders to make sure that Castle Point receives its fair share of this extra cash.”
