Last week in Parliament, Youth Employment UK and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment invited MPs to attend a drop-in session to understand how they can support young people and youth employment in their constituency.

At the drop-in, MPs were invited to sign the Youth Friendly MP Charter and discussed mechanisms to support youth employment in their constituency.

The Charter contains a number of principles such as; listening to young people to understand the barriers they face when entering employment, supporting quality learning and development opportunities, opening up work experience opportunities, celebrating the important role young people play in local economies, and ensuring young people are treated fairly whilst at work.

‘I was very pleased to sign the Youth Friendly MP Charter and commit to supporting youth employment in Castle Point and nationally. It is so important that young people have the tools to fulfil their career potential. I already try to offer as many work experience opportunities in Parliament as I can for local young people and will look at other ways I could help getting people onto the job ladder.”
