WASPI

Yesterday in the House of Commons Rebecca Harris MP for Castle Point presented a petition on behalf Castle Point residents for the WASPI campaign (Women Against State Pension Inequality). The petition is asking the Government to look again at changes to the state pension for women born in the 1950s and to consider transitional arrangements. The 1995 Pensions Act introduced plans to increase women’s state pension age to 65. However many women did not receive notification of this change and it happened sooner than expected. As a result the WASPI group formed and started campaigning to achieve fair transitional state pension arrangements for women born on or after the 6th April 1951. Over 45 Castle Point residents signed this petition.

Rebecca said: “I was pleased to hand over the WASPI petition in the House last Tuesday. I am a proud supporter of the WASPI campaign and I want to get the best outcome for these women. It has become increasingly clear that these women were not fully informed about these changes”
