Rebecca Harris attended the Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Campaign on Tuesday. Founded in 1992, the campaign launched the iconic Pink Ribbon now synonymous with the fight against breast cancer.

The campaign alongside its charitable foundation have funded more than £96 million in lifesaving global research, education and medical services with over £73 million funding medical research through their Breast Cancer Research Foundation which is dedicated to advancing the world’s fight to eradicate breast cancer. In addition to its scientific aims, the company also makes social investments to drive forward social action, supporting more than 60 organisations around the world that facilitate real change aligned to the diverse needs of local communities.

Rebecca commented: ‘It was great to meet with representatives from the Estée Lauder company to hear about their great work. I know that catching cancer in its early stages saves lives. In 2022, 100,000 people were diagnosed with cancer at stages 1 and 2 – this is the highest on record. With the rollout of new breast cancer screening centres, hopefully we can increase these numbers even more. I have experienced losing a close family member to breast cancer myself. My mother-in-law passed away due to breast cancer and I absolutely understand the devastating consequences that breast cancer can have for families in Castle Point.”

The Government is also dedicated to eradicating Breast Cancer. In January, they pledged £10 million to deliver 29 new breast cancer screening units and nearly 70 life-saving upgrades to speed up diagnoses and treatment. These units have been placed in areas where they are most needed, increasing capacity to make sure people can get the care when they need it.

Early detection is vital, NHS England encourages women of all ages to be aware of their breast health and to know how to check themselves for cancer symptoms. You can find out more about how to do this here.

In Essex, Lady McAdden is proud to be the only Breast Cancer Charity in the UK to currently offer one-to-one support with a nurse for Breast Awareness appointments, both remotely and face-to-face.  They raise awareness of the early detection of breast cancer through education and advice.  Morrisons Canvey Island collected 1675 Bras and raised £1323 for the charity.
