It is with great sadness that we heard the news of the passing of the Mayor of Basildon Borough Council, Councillor Luke Mackenzie yesterday at the young age of 38.

Luke was a dedicated advocate for his residents and a relentless campaigner who will be sorely missed by his residents, colleagues, family and friends.

He will be warmly remembered for his passionate belief in the power of politics to improve peoples lives and his ability to connect with people of whatever background or experience.
