On Tuesday (08/09), Rebecca will be fighting for Castle Point residents at the first hearings into the new Local Plan.
The Government say Castle Point needs 11,662 new homes. The Council’s Plan proposes 6,196. Rebecca argues that with overloaded roads, flooding and drainage problems and stretched infrastructure, the Borough cannot cope with thousands more houses.
The Planning Inspectors will use Jotmans Farm, Glebelands, land south of Charfleets, The Chase, Land at Catherine Road and other Green Belt sites identified as potential Grey Belt as examples to test whether the Council has made a strong enough case for keeping development off our Green Belt.
Rebecca outlined her position on the matter: "We cannot take thousands more houses. But if the Government are going to force them on us, I believe they should go South of the A127, on the Blinking Owl site, with a new strategic road connection, rather than crammed onto already over-developed Canvey or spread across treasured Green Belt sites."
