A few weeks ago, Dame Rebecca joined Benfleet resident and founder of Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK, Paul Swindell, at the House of Commons for a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Defibrillators.
After suffering a sudden cardiac arrest at his home, Paul set up Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK to support those in recovery. The charity has now grown into an internationally recognised peer support network organisation of over 3,000 for survivors, co-survivors and key supporters.
Speaking after the event, Dame Rebecca commented: “Paul and Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK provide the crucial community support and resources to help survivors in their recovery journey. The road to over-coming such a life-changing event is not an easy one but the charity ensures that people are not alone in this process.”
