Rebecca at the EDGI event

Dame Rebecca has shown her support for the Eating Disorder Genetics Initiative (EDGI) and attended the project's Parliamentary event.

EDGI is the UK’s largest ever research project on eating disorders. Its aim is to collect the psychological, medical, and genetic information of 10,000 people with experience of any eating disorder to help better understand the role both our genes and environment play in the development of these illnesses.

Eating disorders can often be invisible illnesses but they can be devastating for those who experience them. EDGI is working alongside an international collaboration to increase understanding of eating disorders and compensate for years of stigma, underrepresentation and underfunding.

If you have ever experienced or are experiencing an eating disorder, you can contribute to EDGI's study to advance research in not only eating disorders, but to all other mental and physical health conditions as well. More information can be found here: https://edgiuk.org/about

If you or anyone you know are suffering from an eating disorder then please get in contact with your GP for support. Alternatively, EDGI have teamed up with 'Beat', which exists to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Beat’s support services are here for people who have or are worried that they have an eating disorder, as well as others affected, such as friends or family members. Beat offers support on the Helpline by phone, email, webchat (live link) through their social media accounts and by letter. All of Beat's Helplines are free to contact and are open from 3pm - 8pm, Monday - Friday.

  • Beat's helpline is: 0808 801 0677
  • More information and other ways to contact them can be found here: https://edgiuk.org/beat-and-edgi
