This week, Rebecca has been out around the Borough and checking online to see whether highway gullies that residents have reported to Essex County Council over recent months have actually been cleared.
She was pleased to report that some have, but unfortunately, found that far too many are still blocked!
Rebecca chased Essex County Council again yesterday on the outstanding drainage defects around Castle Point and Bowers Gifford, and is continuing to pass on residents’ concerns about blocked ditches and drainage dykes too.
Castle Point residents know how quickly heavy rain can cause problems in some of the flooding hotspots, so Rebecca emphasised that getting these drains and watercourses flowing properly really matters.
On the evening of her inspection, Rebecca said: "Thank you to the residents who took time to stop and speak to me out and about. I also met a local cat on Canvey who seemed very bemused why a woman in high vis was peering into every drain along her street!"
