Castle Point MP, Rebecca Harris, is backing a campaign to raise awareness of local social enterprises, businesses with a social mission that reinvest their profits for good.
Rebecca attended the launch of the UK’s first Social Saturday at a House of Commons reception for MPs and some of the UK’s best-loved social enterprises, including the Big Issue and Divine Chocolate.
Social Saturday will take place this Saturday, 13 September 2014, and is designed to boost the number of consumers buying from Britain’s 70,000 plus social enterprises.
Rebecca wants to help raise awareness of social enterprises in Castle Point and get local people buying from them to boost the local economy. She said:
“The aim of Social Saturday is to get people buying from social enterprises. Let’s get people in Castle Point spending their money with social enterprises in the area. These businesses are driven by a social mission, not a money mission, and are dedicated to improving the local community – for example, by creating jobs or helping people back in to work.
We have some great social enterprises here in Castle Point such as The Salvation Army’s Hadleigh Farm and Business Opportunities for the Physically Handicapped, as well as many excellent charity shops. I would urge everyone to go out this Saturday and support our local social enterprises and charity shops.”
