Rebecca has laid a cross of remembrance at the 'Constituency Garden of Remembrance' in Parliament this week as we approach Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November.
Together with MPs from all parties in the House of Commons, Rebecca was invited to lay a cross to honour all those in the constituency who so valiantly gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country.
This Sunday is Remembrance Sunday where the nation will stop to remember all those who defended our freedom. As well as the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London, there will be a number of events held in Castle Point:
- South Benfleet: Remembrance Service at St Mary’s Church on the High Road at 10:00AM. The wreath laying ceremony will commence at 10:55AM at the War Memorial by the Anchor pub.
- Canvey Island: Remembrance Service will begin at 10:40AM (arrive at 10:20AM) at the Paddocks War Memorial on Long Road, followed by a parade down to the Royal British Legion Hall on Denham Road.
- Hadleigh: Remembrance Service at St James the Less Church on the High Street at 10:40AM, followed by the wreath laying at the War Memorial on Hadleigh Recreation Ground at 11:55AM.
- Thundersley: Remembrance Service at St Peter’s Church at 10:50AM.
This will be followed by events on Tuesday 11 November (Armistice Day):
- Thundersley Village: Wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Hart Road, 10:50AM (arrive by 10:40AM).
- Hadleigh: Armistice Day service at the Salvation Army Temple, 10:45AM.
Rebecca would like to encourage all those who can to attend and show their support for our fallen veterans.
Rebecca said: "It is always deeply moving to pause and remember all those from Castle Point and across the country who answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
"We owe so much to their courage and we must never take for granted the peace and liberty they fought to secure.
"We will remember them."
