🎾 Today in Parliament, Rebecca stopped by an event hosted by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to thank them for their work installing the new tennis courts at King George V playing fields on Canvey Island with Castle Point Borough Council.
The new courts were installed last year and funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport under the previous Conservative Government. Rebecca hopes they will get plenty of use this summer and continue to be well used and appreciated for many years to come.
The Lawn Tennis Association hosted today's event as part of their mission to grow tennis by making it welcoming, enjoyable and inspiring to everyone. They have multiple programmes to encourage different groups into the sport:
- LTA Youth was created to help more children enjoy the benefits of playing and staying in tennis
- Open Court has helped a record number of disabled people enjoy the benefits of tennis
- SERVES takes tennis right in to the heart of new communities across Britain; or through the range of national, regional and local tennis competitions
With the Wimbledon Championships currently underway, it is hoped that more people will be encouraged to take up the sport which is a focal point of Britain's sporting calendar. If you have been inspired to take up tennis or simply wish to find out more, follow this link to the LTA website: www.lta.org.uk
As well as the 3 tennis courts available at King George V playing fields, there are also 2 at John H Burrows Recreation Ground in Hadleigh. The Deanes Lawn Tennis Club in Thundersley has always had an extensive junior and adult tennis programme, more information can be found here: https://deanessportscentre.com/tennis
