Today, the Government have announced the rollout of an additional 300,000 laptops and tablets, to help disadvantaged children and young people learn at home while we all play our part, staying home, protecting the NHS and saving lives.
From the start of this pandemic, the Government have worked to ensure that every child across our nation has had access to their education - despite the difficult situation we have all faced. We don’t want any child, through background or circumstance, to be unable to access the high quality education they deserve.
This announcement, backed by an addition £100 million, will help rollout 300,000 additional devices to disadvantaged children and young people who need the most help with access to technology through the pandemic. These additional laptops and tablets will bring the total of our Get Help with Technology Programme to 1.3 million devices – which the Government are already rolling out at speed with 100,000 devices delivered to schools last week and three-quarters of a million devices expected to be delivered by end of this week.
These additional devices will help add to the significant support the Government are making available to help schools deliver high-quality online learning for every child in this country. Together, with the continued heroic work of schools and teachers, we will ensure that no child’s education is hindered through background, location or circumstance.
