Local MP Rebecca Harris and Conservative councillors at Castle Point Borough Council have welcomed the Government’s £1.52 million funding for the Canvey Island Seafront Regeneration project, providing investment and boosting our local economy.

This round of Coastal Communities Funding will see £36 million invested in more than 71 projects in towns and villages along the English coastline, providing jobs for local communities, and attracting visitors to our coastal towns.

This new project on Canvey Island will include construction of a new pavilion with viewing area, a new retail kiosk, increased car parking, and an improved walkway to connect Thorney Bay with Canvey Central Seafront. Additionally, improved lighting will be installed to extend the peak activity period.

The Coastal Communities Fund is part of the Conservative Government’s plan to invest in towns and villages across the country, ensuring people and businesses in communities along our coastline can thrive. This funding will create new infrastructure for visitors and protect and enhance cultural attractions, as well as supporting local businesses.

Castle Point Borough Council Cabinet Member, Cllr Ray Howard MBE said:

“This is fantastic news. Our seafront holds an important place in the heart of many in our community, you can see that by just how many people and voluntary groups give up their time to support it. This award will fund plans Castle Point Council have been working on for a long time to create more jobs in the area and our seafront even more of a fun and beautiful place for Canvey residents to enjoy.”

Commenting, Rebecca Harris MP said:

“The Government is investing in the future the country’s coastal towns. It’s brilliant that Canvey is getting such a large share from a pot that is covering the entire English coastline. We are getting over £1.5 million from a nationwide fund of £36 million that is funding 71 projects around the country this year. I think it’s a testament to the work of the Borough Council who put together the bid, but also the passion that the people of Canvey have for our seafront."
