Castle Point MP, Dame Rebecca Harris, has welcomed the initial success of pay as you go with contactless ticketing across the c2c rail network, as over 50,000 contactless journeys have already been recorded since it launched on 2nd February.
Dame Rebecca Harris MP said:
“It is great to see that contactless ticketing has been so well received by c2c customers, with so much positive feedback received in the first two weeks since it was launched.
“It was also good to hear how customers have been using this ticketing option when travelling to and from my local station of Benfleet, with over 50,000 taps in and out already.
“The quick and easy advantages of pay-as-you- go with contactless, and peace of mind that you will always be charged the best value fares, make this the obvious choice for many passengers.”
Since the beginning of February, customers have been able travel across the entire c2c route, into and around London and the wider pay as you go area with a single contactless payment card or device, making c2c the only national rail operator offering a fully contactless network.
Using contactless means the best value adult fare is calculated and charged for journeys made for that day and time of travel. For most people, this fare is the same as a ticket bought on the day but customers can also benefit from Monday to Sunday price capping when travelling into and within London.
Commenting, Rob Mullen, Managing Director at c2c, added:
“I am delighted that so many of our customers are already choosing to travel using pay as you go with contactless. Right across the route we are seeing thousands of customers using contactless ticketing for their daily commute to work, trips to the shops and for weekend leisure activities.
“The daily price capping feature for those taking journeys into and around London makes planning and travelling with c2c quicker, more convenient and easier than ever before.
“Contactless is a great addition to our wide range of ticketing and payment options, and these early figures clearly demonstrate just how popular it is going to be.”
