This week, former Referendum Party Candidate for Castle Point, Hugh Maulkin, comes out to support Rebecca in the general election.
He stood for the Referendum Party in Castle Point in 1997 and got 2,700 votes. That year the Conservatives lost Castle Point to the Labour Party by 1143 votes helping Tony Blair sweep into power.
Mr Maulkin said:
"Back in 1997 I stood for Parliament in Castle Point to get a referendum on Europe. In 2015 I am supporting Rebecca Harris because she is a hard working eurosceptic who is not afraid to stand up for residents and because the only way we will get the referendum the people of British public deserve is with a Conservative majority in Parliament.
I genuinely fear for the future of our country if Ed Miliband becomes Prime Minister and I can't see why UKIP are standing candidates against Conservatives like Rebecca when they know all they are likely to do is increase the chances of Labour getting back into Downing Street.
I urge every Castle Point resident who cares about getting us a referendum to vote Conservative and get Rebecca back in."
Rebecca said:
"I am very grateful for the endorsement from Hugh and I am very pleased we will be out on the doorsteps fighting side by side for a Conservative Government and for the EU referendum we all want."
William Hauge commented:
"The only the way the British people are going to get the referendum on Europe they deserve is with a Conservative majority government.
Every vote given to anybody but Rebecca in Castle Point increases the chances of Ed Miliband trying to become Prime Minister on 8th May and denies the people of Castle Point a say on Europe.
I am very glad that Hugh, who stood for the Referendum Party in 1997, is supporting Rebecca and will be fighting side by her side to get a majority Conservative government on 7th May and help secure that referendum."
