Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris has lent her support to a local charity which seeks to provide companionship to older people living alone. Castle Point Association of Volunteer Services (CAVS) provide a Befriending Service to combat loneliness and isolation felt my many in our community.
Their most recent campaign “Go Red for CAVS” encouraged people to support their services and donate by ‘going red’. The possibilities are endless. Individuals across the borough were urged to wear red, eat something red, or even sell something red and donate the proceeds.
The campaign was run between 28th September and October 2nd. All donations will be gratefully received and will be used to boost the Befriending Service. Speaking at an event held at Rayleigh Weir Fire Station, local Member of Parliament Rebecca Harris (sporting a red dress) said:
“This is such an important cause. The number of older people living alone is rapidly growing and loneliness and isolation are becoming far too common. I totally support CAVS and their Go Red campaign. It’s an easy and fun way to raise money for this really crucial charity.”
