Recently, Rebecca attended an event in Westminster to support the Armed Forces Covenant and the Royal British Legion.

The Royal British Legion are well known for their fantastic work supporting members of our armed forces. Their support begins at the start of a military career and continues through life, long after service is over, providing a wide range of support for veterans and their families too.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families - including the bereaved - should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

After visiting the event in Westminster, Rebecca said: "I am a big supporter of both the Legion and the Covenant, and it was fantastic to hear two inspirational speeches from Lt. Lilly-Mae Fisher of the Royal Navy and Dave 'DC' Coleman, to hear about their experiences during and after service."

Saturday, 28 June 2025 marks Armed Forces Day where we say thank you as a nation. Canvey Island Town Council is organising its’ annual Canvey Island Armed Forces Day on 28th June to celebrate the contribution of the armed forces in the community. The parade will start from Castle View School’s car park, Foksville Road from 10.30am and will march through the Town Centre on Furtherwick Road down to Long Road then on to the Paddocks Community Centre.

The parade will include representatives from veteran groups and individuals, the Sutherland Pipes and Drums, current serving members of the armed forces, local scouts, girl guides, army cadets, youth groups and the emergency services. A short service of celebration will be held at 11am outside at the Paddocks War Memorial followed by a wartime exhibition in the Paddocks.

On Thursday 26 June, our community will pay tribute to the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who serve – and have served – in the Armed Forces with a service at the Council Offices in Kiln Road, SS7 1TF, beginning at 10am (guests are welcome to arrive from 9:30am).

Following introductions in the Atrium, The Mayor and The Mayor's Chaplain will lead the outdoor Service where the Armed Forces Day flag will be raised in a moment of reflection. Light refreshments will be provided after the service, and all members of the community are warmly invited to attend.
